Family Oriented Visiting Areas at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility

To maximize positive family interaction during visiting, staff continues to develop recommendations for improving the visiting area to include all ages of children.

More games and books have been allowed. Interactive craft projects are available. These recommendations create opportunities for inmates to have more meaningful visits for their children. Often times the craft projects are used to decorate the visiting area. Decorations are developed to create an atmosphere that is welcoming and comfortable for children. In the medium facility a refrigerator has been painted on the wall for the children to hang their artwork. A tree is painted on another wall of the visiting area. Children are encouraged to “decorate” the tree with seasonal artwork. A teen corner has been developed in the Medium. The teen corner is an effort to assist incarcerated parents with critical issues and decisions and how to deal with their teenagers. Information is available for careers and employment, education, gangs and signs of involvement, substance abuse and prevention/recognition, and teen pregnancy.
