In December 2004, the Western Prison Project published “I Touch Your Face in my Dreams,” a collection of writings by children of incarcerated parents. Through these individual stories the reader is able to hear the voice of a child affected by a parent’s incarceration. Project director, Rachel Pearl, noted in her preface that “incarceration not only hurts the prisoner who is locked in, but also those who are locked out.”
